[attr="class","hoenn_pillar_rules"]BATTLES
[attr="class","hoenn_body"] Pokémon Battles are handled on site in a somewhat freeform manner, meaning players are generally allowed to be imaginative with their interpretation of commands and can take a few creative liberties when it comes to issuing attacks, within reason.
[break][break]
Only one action per turn. These include giving your Pokémon an order, switching one out for another, using an item, running away from an encounter, and so on. Trainers are given a little more flexibility in this regard and are able to directly interact with events as they occur; they might need to avoid an incoming attack or may feel inclined to directly assist their Pokémon in some capacity or another.[break][break]
Be mindful of Types! Each and every species of Pokémon have their own distinctive strengths and weaknesses depending on what Type they are, as do the variety of techniques available to them. A move that is super-effective against one Type may have little to no impact against another Type.[break][break]
Levels influence the difficulty of a Battle. As a general rule of thumb, the further apart the Level gap is, the more a Pokémon will struggle against another if its Level is the lower of the two; a Level 5 Pidgey, for example, will utterly fail to leave an impression against a Furret at Level 30, whereas the fight will be more evenly matched if said Pidgey were at Level 25 instead.[break][break]
Evolution is beneficial, but not required. Similar to Levels, an evolved Pokémon is typically considered a more enhanced version of itself, but this will not make or break a Battle. A Pichu that has been trained exceptionally well, for instance, may fare just as effectively against a Raichu if given the proper commands while also taking Types, Levels, and overall strategy into consideration.[break][break]
When in doubt, plot it out! A well-written thread that everyone can enjoy is arguably more satisfying than winning the Battle itself for the sake of bragging rights. If you have questions or concerns about the flow of combat, do not hesitate to talk things over with your role-playing partner/s! Should a dispute happen to arise, however, we insist that you request a member of the staff team step in to moderate the Battle to ensure fair play on both sides.
