[attr="class","mallory"]Huh, what a pathetic expedition. Three capture devices expended, and nearly all of them were wasted on creatures with little to no potential. It was no matter, however, even monsters this weak could be trained to be killing machines with the right skill. And that skill was something Mallory certainly believed herself to have. Testing her new tools on wild Pokémon was no accurate way to heighten their abilities, though, she needed a real Trainer with a real trained team. Unfortunately, Jagged Pass was as empty as it ever was. No wandering trainers, no campers, just the calm sounds of the mountain winds blowing down from Mt. Chimney. The doctor wasn't really dressed to her profession today, nor was she wearing a single article of obvious Team Magma branded clothing. Instead, she opted for a casual look, which was composed of a basic pair of blue jeans, a loose black hooded shirt, and a matte red leather jacket. The only Magma-related accessory that she kept on was her distinctive horned headband, which was a signature look of hers in combination with her vibrant pink hair. Most of her team were inside of their balls and clipped to her belt, but her Marowak instead walked by her side as he usually did. The Ground-Type was not particularly fond of pokeballs, usually getting incredibly cranky and restless whenever he had to stay in one for more than an hour. This temperament was not desirable out of what she considered to be her primary partner, therefore an exception was made for him. The brown reptile hit his bone club on the ground in various places, attempting to find Pokémon or items hidden in the dirt. Unfortunately for him, it seemed to be a slow day for even the Diglett. " Come, Marowak. We're sure to find what we're looking for in Lavaridge." Mallory said to her partner while looking down at the town that was on the horizon. It wasn't the most bustling town, but it was certainly full of Trainers who were attempting their pathetic Gym Challenges. tag notes --- | "Wowee, that was somethin' else!" Felicity skipped her way up the Jagged Pass with an extra spring in her step, far more of it than she usually demonstrated on a day so bright and sunny like this one. "I ought to visit the hot springs more often!" Well, that explains her sudden burst of vitality.
Wandering up the rocky slopes of Mt. Chimney wasn't something the youngest Quirke child actively took time out of her schedule to do very often, but the last couple of weeks studying science in school had proven most effective at stimulating Felicity's dynamic sense of imagination; if she could uncover a rare fossil and show it to the classroom, then everyone will want to pay top dollar to get her autograph or something!
"I'm gonna find the biggest Kabuto shell ever! It'll make the perfect mask for Halloween!" Felicity's daydreaming was instantly put on hold by the sudden appearance of a young woman she had never seen before, wearing a headband that showcased two distinctive horns. Her clothes seemed pretty expensive, too; like she could just drop a whole paycheck on that kind of outfit without blinking twice.
At her side, a Marowak. A Ground-Type Pokémon, those were masters of bone weaponry and could manipulate their signature clubs in a variety of dangerous ways. This one seemed edgy, restless. Like it was looking for a fight.
Something in Felicity's gut sent chills running up and down her spine. This woman wasn't to be messed with.
"Y-You here for the Mt. Chimney tour group?" the teenager tries her best to break the ice with an innocent question, shrugging weakly to conceal her own anxiety. "They've got Lava Cookies and coffee at the lodge!"

[attr="class","mallory"]As the duo came down the mountain, a single soul was finally spotted. It was a young trainer sporting a bowl-cut, a fashion trend that Mallory would never even considered to be a viable option. What were these kids thinking these days? They had no sense of refinement, no sense of style, those two facts were certain. Marowak stared directly into the new trainer's eyes, then scanning her to see if she had any Pokemon of her own with her. But alas, the observant creature found nothing, unless she was hiding her arsenal elsewhere. The Magma Leader peered down at the trainer, approaching her as she spoke to her, asking about some sort of Mt. Chimney tour group. Her cold sea foam green eyes looked up and down, scanning the trainer just as her partner had done previously, remaining silent for some time. It would certainly be awkward and unnerving for the other party, but the doctor did not care. " The Mt. Chimney Tour? The same one that disturbs dozens of Pokemon living in the mountain each month?" It was certainly a backhanded answer, and the words left her lips like stinging insects. Her glare never faulted, and a smug grin came to her face as if she was purposely attempting to condescend and belittle the other trainer. " Is that where you are going?" While the tour did disrupt the communities of Pokemon living within the mountain, and it certainly did make it more difficult for Team Magma to operate out of Jagged Pass as they did, they were ultimately a good thing for the community and society as a whole. Tourism has kept Lavaridge alive, kept the economy flowing in the area, and gave many people jobs. Mallory smiled, reflecting on her thoughts. " If it is, why don't you show me the way?" tag notes --- | "The Mt. Chimney Tour? The same one that disturbs dozens of Pokémon living in the mountain each month?" Disturbs? What on earth is she talking about? Felicity had been up and down the Jagged Pass plenty of times; on land and by using the hydraulic lift; and there was never a single instance where it caused any direct problems for the native Pokémon – heck, even the birds knew to avoid the cables.
Unlike this marvelous feat of bio-engineering, it is the woman's cold glare and freezing words that act to disturb the younger child. "Is that where you are going?" Even her response is emotionally removed from the rest of the world; like a single rain cloud hovering pitifully in one spot while everything else glowed with sunshine and happiness.
But the smile... The smile is what puts Felicity in a defensive frame of thought. "If it is, why don't you show me the way?"
"I dunno? I just kind of... go wherever?" It wasn't a lie, not in the slightest, but neither was it entirely rooted in her usual mien of sincerity. She didn't exactly enjoy the other person's needlessly spiteful atmosphere, but there were definitely worse people in the world.
Then, as it usually happened in moments of personal stress, Felicity received a serendipitous stroke of manic energy. "I did just get done visiting the hot springs, though! I felt so good after I got out, I could have done a bazigajillion cartwheels!"
Situations like this were not Felicity Quirke's favorite thing to deal with. During such instances, she often relied on humor to subvert any tension being stirred by the antagonizing party, but since this ice queen in red clothes seemed real testy today, it compelled the youngster to try and play it safe. That Marowak was looking mighty scary right about now...

[attr="class","mallory"]This Trainer...she truly had no idea as to what she was doing. This was the case with many of them, they simply wandered around without a care in the world, without any responsibility, just a few Pokemon to keep them company and babysit them. This was all very apparent by the way she carried herself and the way she spoke. Though Mallory couldn't blame her too much for her actions or demeanor, after all, she was but a child. The topic of the tour was quickly diverted, as it seemed that this girl didn't actually know too much about it or when it would be taking place. It was becoming more and more apparent that she was nervous, just talking in circles in attempt to get herself out of this situation. One didn't need to be an expert in brain science to notice that, but it certainly helped that the observer was actually an expert in brain science. Why not go along with it? She was sure to crack eventually. " I, too, enjoy the Hot Springs from time to time. However, I haven't done a cartwheel in...many years." If ever. Mallory wasn't exactly the most fit Trainer in Hoenn, and she preferred to leave any physical activity and duties to her followers. Not that she was heinously out of shape, she simply just would not be considered fit by average standards. After all, when her training career ended abruptly, most of her time was spent behind a desk at a computer. " With the amount of energy you exert, you would be finished with the Gym Challenge in no time. Have you ever considered taking it?" The doctor didn't care about her answer at all. She only cared if the girl mentioned having any Pokemon, which is where she was attempting to take this conversation. She still wished to try out her new team members and see if they were fit for battle, or needed further study before they would be ready. Marowak was still hunting for Diglett at this point, and he nearly got lucky when one showed its head, only to quickly retreat under the ground as soon as it saw a heavy bone coming down on its head. The little dinosaur cried out in disappointment, having missed its target, before continuing in trying with the same vigilance it showed before. tag notes short post is short, rip | "I, too, enjoy the Hot Springs from time to time. However, I haven't done a cartwheel in... many years." This wasn't working, Felicity realized, much to her internal dismay. The pink-haired woman seemed intent on gleaning her for information, and she hated being the center of attention. Her next comment merely solidified the Trainer's suspicions. "With the amount of energy you exert, you would be finished with the Gym Challenge in no time. Have you ever considered taking it?"
"Eh, a couple'a times, but I really don't like battling all that much," At surface level, Felicity's statement was a bold-faced lie, but reading between the lines revealed a small morsel of sincerity; Pokémon Battles were not her favorite thing to participate in. "Lotsa noise, all that pressure to win... Pokémon should be about having fun and making friends, I think!"
Speaking of which, it appeared as though that Marowak had tried to keep its club-swinging prowess preserved by playing Whack-a-Diglett with some of the local wildlife, a sight which partially upset Felicity, as she could sense its eagerness to use that weapon on something a little less resistant.
Who was this woman?
"Oh! That reminds me, there's a carnival going on in Slateport City this week!" Felicity piped up with yet another attempt to distract the cold, judgmental gaze of her much older conversation partner. "Your Marowak looks super strong! They'd be a shoo-in at the Machamp Mallet!"
