[attr="class","app_subtitle"]CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY
[attr="class","app_bio"]At the age of fourteen, Paul moved from Sinnoh to Hoenn in hope of finding a more varied set of life experiences in order to progress his dream of being a successful author. His parents agreed that travel abroad would be stimulating for their son and so shipped him off to live with his grandmother in Slateport. During the boat trip to his new home, however, he discovered something else which piqued his interest, however.[break][break]
Two boys, younger than himself, were locked in a fierce Pokemon battle on the ship's deck. Their commands were seamless, almost as if they had been instinctual for them. Though the elements of nature and wondrous mysticism clashed about them, their determination never faltered; their focus never tore. And at the end of the clash of trainers, the two still came together for an impressive display of sportsmanship symbolized in their shaking of hands.[break][break]
It was beautiful to the young Paul Gray. And so, upon arriving in unknown territory, he decided that he would strive to experience such things for himself. To battle these creatures for sport, not with the aim of victory but for the thrill of the battle itself. And with this, he hoped perhaps he too could inspire others in the same way.[break][break]
To live a dream. To dream and live freely.[break][break]
That's how it began, anyway. Such sweet thoughts. But, alas, not all is as one will strive for in life. Even with his own determination kindled by revelation through fighting spirit, his skills as a trainer lacked greatly. Perhaps if he had pursued this life sooner, he'd ponder, it would come more naturally to him as it had those two boys. His losses piled on and his flame of faith was beaten down into the smallest of cinders.
And so Paul delved back into his writing out of frustration. For months he worked, ferociously pouring ink to paper until he had crafted his first novel. It was by no means perfect, but such expectations would be too high for someone his age. Though, even at fifteen, his grandmother was able to sway the attention of a publicist by sharing his raw skill alone. Soon enough his first work, 'Choc des Coeurs' was being critiqued and praised throughout Hoenn and beyond, radio shows in Johto even speaking highly of the young man's literary expertise.[break][break]
It was after this, his head cleared of doubts, that Paul found himself ready to embark on his trainer's pilgrimage once more. Confidence fueled him, and perhaps a bit of cockiness had taken a grip of his artistic personality. But no matter the case, he seemed to have improved in his time away from the sport of battling. Enough so that he would even be considered, partly due to his acquired fame as a novelist, as a candidate to take the position of Slateport City's new Gym Leader. No matter the League's reason for their decision, he would gratefully accept. After all...[break][break]
Who could be more worthy of such a title than himself?
